A prominent Benin Chief, Osamede Adun, the Ayobahan of Benin Kingdom and Chief Executive Officer of Bob lzua Conglomerate, has called on the people of Edo state to take a critical look at the 2025 Budget of Edo state as presented by the Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo and see how it will benefit them rather than focusing on the mistake being made.
Recall that the governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo presented a budget estimate of N605 billion for the 2025 fiscal year.
The Governor, while presenting the Appropriation Bill titled “Budget of Renewed Hope for a Rising Edo” at the hallowed chamber of the Edo State House of Assembly, revealed that the proposed budget reflects a 25 per cent increase from the 2024 budget.
Okpebholo disclosed that N223 billion, or 37 per cent of the total N605 billion budget, would be dedicated to recurrent expenditure.
The remaining N381 billion, which represents 63 per cent, is allocated to capital projects.
“This budget is a product of extensive consultations and embodies my administration’s commitment to achieving its five-point agenda: security, infrastructural development, healthcare, food sufficiency, and education,” Okpebholo stated.
Chief Adun said the content and the gains expected of the budget should be a subject of public discourse.
He described the state Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo as a man who is committed to the development of the state in all sectors.
Chief Adun made this known in an interview with Journalists in Benin City, Edo State Capital.
He said the budget adequately covered critical sectors of the economy which include infrastructure, health, education , agriculture, security and other areas that will benefit and bring rapid development to the state.
He pointed out that nobody was above mistake as even a former South Africa president once made same mistake at a time.
He further called on the people of the state to encourage and support the governor to bring meaningful development to the doorsteps of the people.
